Earnshaw House

Earnshaw Hostel is one of 4 services within Northcare Trust that provides supported accommodation for adults who are in recovery from mental illness.
We are a Level 3 service based in Otaika. We provide 24hour support.
Individuals can be referred to our service through the Mental Health Unit or to our Level 3 service from the community.

Residents are allocated a keyworker who will support them during their stay. We support individuals in the learning or relearning of daily living skills such as personal hygiene, minor household tasks and cooking skills. We can also provide support with minor budgeting, or we can put our residents in touch with a budgeting service.

Medication is fully supervised to begin with, working towards the person self medicating.

Advocating on behalf of our residents is also part of the service we provide. Residential support workers support their clients with appointments to their Psychiatrist, GP, WINZ or any other service that a resident may need support with.

We access programmes for our residents that provide a creative outlet or promotes physical wellbeing. Examples of present programmes are Tai Chi, pottery, bone carving, painting and working with animals at the SPCA and Whangarei Riding Therapy Centre.
Earnshaw also have in-house activities such as a walking group, regular quiz or housie nights, gardening and a writing group.

We encourage the nurturing of family/whanau contact by involving them where possible in their family members recovery.

Please contact us with any queries.
